A Life Member Award

Last evening’s Camera Club AGM started with a special occasion dedicated to one of the longest standing members of the Club – Radu Handoca, who was awarded a Life Membership in recognition of his support and contribution to the Club over the past 33 years.
Andy Bridge explained that “Radu has had a huge influence on this Club since 1985, helping to put it on the strong foot that it is now. Andy stated that the Committee had decided for the first time ever to award a Life Membership and he is very pleased that Radu will be a life member of the club. In addition and in recognition of that, the Club also created “The Radu Handoca Trophy” Competition”, which will be a Theme competition. Radu will be invited to choose the themes, said Andy Bridge.
Andy added that he has known Radu for over 30 years and during this time and until last year when he stepped down from the Committee, Radu performed many different roles, from Chair for several years, to vice-chair, competition secretary, programme secretary, treasurer and committee member, bringing his wisdom and huge contribution to a growing club.
Radu responded and said: “It’s difficult to explain the emotion of anyone invited to an event like this. I never thought about it and I am honoured, I will try to do my very best to help the club whenever I will be asked to do so”. Radu was accompanied by his wife Margaret, also a member of the Club for many years.
Radu chose the theme for next season’s competition in his name, which will be “Public Transport”.
The Club Chair, Rob Dawson and all the members showed their appreciation by presenting Radu with bottles of specially selected wine and a bouquet of flowers for Margaret and gave them a huge round of applause
